Will the Buddyrider fit my bike?

The BuddyRider will fit most bikes, however before purchasing, please do a quick check of your bicycles seat post diameter and dimensions between your seat post and handlebar post as described below:

Here's how you check to see if the BuddyRider will fit.

      1. Adjust and set your seat height in a safe and comfortable position, low enough so both feet can touch the ground when stopped.
      2. Measure the length of exposed seat post. Is there at least 45mm of seat post showing to attach the Buddyrider?
      3. Measure the diameter of the exposed seat post. Is the diameter between 25mm and 31.75mm?
      4. Next measure at right angles from the seat post towards the front of the bike. Is there at least 48.5 cm of clearance?

If you answered yes to all of the above questions it is very likely that Buddyrider will fit your bike. There are unusual frames on the market like the ‘Townie’, some fold up bikes and some suspension trail bikes. Just follow the same guidelines above and you will get a fairly accurate answer.

A note about traditional step through ladies bikes.

A traditional 'step through' ladies bike with the lower frame in front of the seat allows you to mount the bike by stepping through and then sitting. This can no longer be accomplished with the Buddyrider mounted in place. If you are a lady (or gentleman) with this style of bike, you will have to mount the bike 'gentleman style', straight over the seat from the side.

      Suspension type seat posts

If your bike has a suspension seat post, this will have to be replaced with a rigid type available at most bike stores.

      Unpacking, Assembly & Safety checks

Please read the following instructions carefully before placing a pet in this seat. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury. By attaching the Buddyrider pet seat to a bicycle you are acknowledging that you have read and understand the terms and conditions, assembly and safety instructions, and understand the inherent dangers that may be associated with transporting a pet on a bicycle. Only experienced adult cyclists, who are very confident in their abilities as a rider should transport a pet using this seat.

Assembly of Seat onto metal crossbar

      1. Assemble the seat by raising the front platform and securing the center support arm with one of the supplied screws and a lock washer. (See Fig 1. above)
      2. Temporarily attach the metal bar to your bicycle seat post. There must be at least 1-3/4" of post exposed below the seat to make this connection. Keep this connection as high up the seat post as possible. This will give the rider more legroom when peddling.
      3. Position the pet seat on the metal bar as far forward as possible without causing any interference with the steering post or handle bars of the bicycle.
      4. Make a small pencil mark on the metal bar right behind the pet seat.
      5. Remove the metal bar and pet seat from the bicycle.
      6. Position the pet seat on the metal bar in the same position as it was while on the bicycle and turn both of them upside down. Slide the pet seat along the metal bar as if to cover the pencil mark until four of the drill holes simultaneously line up with the screw sockets on the bottom of the pet seat.
      7. Using four of the screws and lock washers provided, mount the pet seat to the metal bar. Make sure all four screws are in position before tightening.

NOTE: Steps 1 through 7 should never need to be re-done unless the pet seat is mounted on a different size bicycle, in which case the four screws may have to be re-located in different holes to adjust the length.

      1. Install the assembled pet seat to the bicycle using the cam lever on the quick release seat post clamp. Fine adjustment on the threads may be required to get proper tension on the cam lever.
      2. Position the pre-tension strap around the main frame of the bicycle, as far forward as possible and in a way that does not interfere with, or restrict any brake or gear cables.
      3. Tighten the pre-tension strap and either trim the excess and re-sear the cut edge, or simply secure the excess so it does not get caught in anything while riding.

Assembly of Safety Harness onto seat

Just like a seat belt on a child car seat, this harness is designed to limit unnecessary movement so your pet remains in a safe position to enjoy the ride.

      Install and connect as shown
Your pet must be secured in the seat at all times using the safety harness provided.
      1. Place your pet in the seat in a sitting position as far back in the seat as possible.
      2. Connect and position the rear buckle over your pet's shoulders and adjust the rear straps equally.
      3. Position the collar strap around your pet's neck so it is just below your pet's own collar. Connect the front buckle and adjust the collar strap to size.
      4. When your pet is in the sitting position with their front legs along the upper platform or straight down, adjust the front straps equally so your pet is restrained from standing.
